Silverfish

  • Common throughout Virginia, and particularly the Hampton Roads area, is the Silverfish – an insect that loves the taste of sweets so much, its official name is the Latin term for “sugary”. It feeds on starchy human food, including carbohydrates and protein, and it’s that craving for sweet foods that can quickly turn silverfish into more than just a food pest.

  • These pests do invade food, and are especially attracted to sweets and coffee, which of course makes them one of the most annoying household pests to deal with. Silverfish are also known to enjoy the taste of book bindings, glue, photo paper, and other inedible items that have a naturally sweet taste, especially as the product ages and the chemical makeup of these bindings begins to break down. This leads to silverfish becoming known for their damage to your home and personal property.
