Are mice dangerous?

While house mice might look innocent enough, they can be a health risk. They are known to carry and transmit various diseases, such as salmonella, hantavirus, and lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus. Additionally, their droppings and urine can contaminate surfaces and food, which contributes to the spread of disease/illness.

House mice can cause damage to structures and electrical wiring, leading to potential fire hazards. They also damage belongings with their chewing and nesting habits as well as with their feces and urine.

What attracts mice?

House mice are attracted to areas where they can find food, water, and shelter. They tend to seek out warm, dark, and secluded areas where they can hide during the day and come out at night to forage for food. They are particularly drawn to areas where food is easily accessible, such as kitchens, pantries, and dining areas.

Of course, there must also be an easy way in for these rodents. They are agile and can squeeze through small openings, such as gaps around pipes, cables, and vents as well as under garage doors and through the spaces around the crawl space door.

How can I prevent an acrobat ant infestation?

To prevent acrobat ants from infesting your structure, Detect Termite recommends:

• Finding any moisture issues or water-damaged wood and making necessary repairs
• Repairing leaking roof, pipes and/or appliances
• Sealing off exterior access points from the foundation to the roof
• Install weather stripping and door sweeps
• Screen attic vents
• Repair or replace torn window screens
• Trim back trees and shrubs so that they do not touch the sides of the structure
