How to Prepare for Termite Treatment Day
Most prep advice online is written for fumigation tents in California. A liquid treatment in Hampton Roads asks far less of you. Here is the real list.

The useful prep is about access and information: clear the perimeter, unlock everything, and tell us about wells and pets.
A liquid subterranean termite treatment is outdoor work with a few indoor moments. The crew digs a shallow trench along the foundation, applies termiticide to the soil, rods it deeper where needed, and drills and patches concrete where slabs and porches meet the house. On most homes the whole visit runs hours, not days, and you can stay home the entire time.
That surprises people, because the internet treatment prep advice mostly describes tent fumigation for drywood termites, a species Hampton Roads essentially does not have. Our termite is the eastern subterranean termite, it lives in the ground, and it is treated through the ground.
The useful prep is not about groceries. It is about access.
The day before
Do these before the truck arrives
Six items, all of them outside, none of them taking more than a few minutes.
- 01 Hoses, pots, cans, the kayak
Clear a lane around the outside foundation
Walk the full perimeter and move anything sitting against the house. The crew trenches a narrow band of soil along the wall, and a clear lane is the difference between a smooth morning and a slow one.
- 02 Before product goes in the ground
Tell us about wells, cisterns, and rain barrels
Termiticide labels restrict application near drinking water sources, and parts of our service area still run on private wells. Flag yours when you book and point it out on arrival.
- 03 The most common delay we see
Unlock everything
Gates, crawl space hatch, garage, the storage room with the water heater. If the hatch is painted shut or buried under a shelf, deal with it the day before.
- 04 Ponds and coops too
Plan for pets
Keep dogs and cats indoors or out of the yard while the crew works, and off treated soil until it has dried. Koi ponds, rabbit hutches, and chicken coops deserve a mention when you book.
- 05 Every hole gets patched
Move stored items off walls we may drill
Where a garage slab or porch meets the living space, treatment can mean drilling a row of small holes along the joint. Pull shelving and boxes a few feet back from those walls.
- 06 Two minutes, no regrets
Point out what matters in the beds
Shallow irrigation lines, low voltage lighting wire, the rose bush your spouse would grieve. The trench is shallow and tidy, but nobody has ever regretted a walkthrough before the digging starts.
